FAQs

The EV charging industry is full of myths, jargon, and complexity. These are the questions property owners actually ask.

My residents don’t have EVs yet, why should I care about EV charging?

EV adoption is accelerating, and charging is fast becoming an expected amenity. About 1.5 million EVs were sold in the U.S. in 2025, roughly 10% of all new vehicles. Globally, one in four new cars sold in 2025 was electric. Drivers who switch expect to charge where they live, work, and stay, and properties that offer charging now are better placed to meet that demand.

What benefits does EV charging bring to my property?

EV charging helps properties stand out, attract and retain residents and tenants, and improve the overall experience. Those benefits can boost NOI and strengthen property value. With 3V funding, installing, and operating the infrastructure, you get the benefits without the capital cost or operational burden.

What is the difference between Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 charging?
  • Level 1 uses a standard 120V outlet and adds about 5 miles of range per hour. It does not require infrastructure upgrades to the property, and the cord usually comes with the car.
  • Level 2 uses 240V, like a clothes dryer, and can fully charge most EVs in 4–6 hours. Level 2 charging is ideal for long-dwell locations like homes, hotels, workplaces, and retail, and it tends to be the best solution for most people’s day to day driving.
  • Level 3 DC fast charging uses 480V and needs significant electrical upgrades. It can charge a vehicle in an hour or less, but it can cost more than $100,000 per charger. It’s best for fast public charging along travel routes.
Why does 3V focus on Level 2 charging?

EV drivers want to charge their cars the same way they charge their phones: while they’re at rest and parked for hours. Level 2 is the most convenient, reliable, and affordable way to do that. 3V is focused on expanding the Level 2 charging that supports everyday driving.

Does 3V have proprietary hardware or software?

No. 3V is a capital provider and long-term owner-operator, not a hardware or software manufacturer. We partner with leading, proven providers. Level 2 technology is already mature. The bigger challenges for property owners are capital and operational complexity, and 3V solves both.

Are the chargers at 3V projects OCPP compliant and interoperable?

Yes. Every charger we install is compliant with OCPP (the Open Charge Point Protocol), the open industry standard. That means chargers can be moved to a different software platform if needed, which reduces vendor and operational risk.

How does 3V ensure technology stays current over time?

3V covers the cost of upgrades and equipment replacements for the life of the agreement. Charging hardware typically lasts 5–7 years, but changing technology and compliance standards can require updates sooner. We proactively upgrade equipment as needed to provide a reliable experience.
