Camden Property Trust

With nearly 60,000 apartments, Camden is one of the largest multifamily operators in the country. 3V invests in, installs, and maintains its EV charging at no cost to Camden, starting with 100+ sites.

How Camden Property Trust Is Future-Proofing Apartments with Zero-Cost EV Charging

Electric vehicle ownership is climbing fast, and multifamily residents are asking a new question before they sign a lease: where do I charge? For Camden Property Trust, an S&P 500 company and one of the largest publicly traded multifamily REITs in the U.S., with 168 properties and nearly 60,000 apartment homes, that question has become impossible to ignore.

Camden sees EV charging as a competitive advantage: an amenity that helps attract and retain residents and strengthens the long-term value of its portfolio. To deliver it at scale, Camden is partnering with 3V Infrastructure

The Challenge: EV Charging Complexity

Camden previously piloted EV charging at select properties, funding the chargers and managing operations itself. The pilots proved demand, but coordinating installers, charging providers, and internal teams took significant time and pulled focus from other priorities. Camden also had little appetite for non-core capital expenditures or for owning long-term infrastructure.

Camden wanted a partner that could bring the capital and the EV charging expertise, make installations seamless, and keep chargers running for the long term, so residents have a consistently positive experience.

The Solution: Partnering with 3V Infrastructure

3V Infrastructure was built by EV charging and real estate professionals to remove the barriers property owners face when adding EV charging. 3V fully funds, owns, and operates charging for multifamily properties, handling design, permitting, installation, and long-term maintenance, at no cost to the property owner.

For Camden, that means:

  • Zero CapEx and zero OpEx. 3V installs and operates the chargers at no cost to Camden.
  • Full-service delivery. 3V manages the entire process, from site design through ongoing maintenance.
  • A demand-driven rollout. Sites typically start with 2-4 chargers and expand, up to 12 per site, as resident utilization grows, so investment follows real demand.
  • An amenity mindset. Charging is managed as a resident-driven offering, not just infrastructure in a parking lot.

3V works with Xeal as its charging hardware partner on the Camden rollout.

“3V Infrastructure gave Camden an opportunity to expand EV charging across our portfolio without spending considerable CapEx or OpEx, helping future-proof our properties. Their responsiveness and best-in-class partners have made the process easy and collaborative,” said Linda Willey, VP of Business Services at Camden Property Trust.

Scale and Momentum

3V’s partnership with Camden covers 100+ sites under exclusivity across Camden’s portfolio, with more added as the relationship grows. Dozens of sites are already live, and the rollout plan calls for 400+ chargers, all at zero cost to Camden and backed by $3 million+ in committed capital from 3V.

Residents are using them. Hundreds of drivers are active across Camden’s sites, and utilization at the top-performing locations averages 30% of monthly charger capacity.

What’s Next

Demand is already outpacing the initial installs. Several sites have seen strong enough utilization that Camden and 3V have signed agreements to add more chargers there, which extends the partnership at those properties. Camden also continues to add sites under exclusivity, including properties with existing charging that 3V will take over, replacing non-functioning chargers and owning and operating the stations going forward.

The Bigger Picture: EV Adoption Isn’t Slowing Down

  • 11% of Camden residents already own an EV, and 33% plan for their next vehicle to be electric.
  • Over 1 million EVs were sold in the U.S. in the first nine months of 2025 alone.
  • More than 100 million EVs are expected on the road globally by 2028.

Properties that solve for charging today are positioning themselves for the next generation of renters. With 3V, Camden is scaling ahead of that curve.
